"Her progress from the first few lessons to now is truly remarkable."
Lois Harvin has worked with our handicapped child for three riding seasons. Georgia, our daughter is now eleven years old and is classified as autistic and mentally retarded. My wife and I find remarkable the strides Georgia has been able to make.
Georgia has come from being totally without knowledge of horses, to being able to brush, saddle, mount, dismount and even control the reins to move a horse in the direction she wants it to go. Her progress from the first few lessons to now is truly remarkable. Georgia will even turn around on Cinnamon, one of Lois' horses, and ride backward. Everything Lois does emphasizes safety and we are very comfortable with all of the safety measures and procedures.
Mrs. Lois, as Georgia calls her, is contantly working on new ideas to challenge and push our child, but in a loving, caring manner. Georgia's improved balance, her ability to overcome fear, her stretching out from the saddle, have all taken time but are tremendously rewarding when you see her face light up when she has accomplished a task. My wife says that Georgia is the bravest child that she knows. While this may be true, Mrs. Harvin's efforts have also been very important to our child's overcoming obstacles and improving her self-esteem. George F. Henne Jr.
